  1. Interactive Session – facilitates real-time collaboration among team members during estimation. The moderator takes a story or task from the backlog, discusses the details, and then each team member shares his or her estimate. It’s best suited for teams that work in the same time zone.

  2. Asynchronous Session – is beneficial for teams with varying schedules since it lets members estimate independently and at their convenience. Some teams use a hybrid approach, casting initial estimations using Async and then meeting in real time for an Interactive session.

Both Interactive and Asynchronous sessions have their merits and are excellent choices for more experienced teams. For those who are not familiar with poker methodologies, we advise against using these sessions immediately, as they involve multiple steps and might feel overwhelming for newcomers.

This advanced guide is specifically designed to cater to those who are already familiar with poker methodologies and are ready to harness Agile Poker's more advanced features effectively. Let's dive in!

Interactive Session

The Interactive session seamlessly integrates the Planning Poker® game into the Jira Cloud environment. It's best for teams working in the same time zone, as it requires all team members to participate at the same time. By utilizing it, teams can easily initiate discussions, reach a consensus, and generate accurate estimations.

Step 1: Start an Interactive Session (Moderator)

To create an Interactive session, you need to follow a simple 3-step wizard. For detailed instructions on how to create an Interactive session, refer to the article below:

Step 2: Perform Interactive Estimation

During an Interactive session, participants provide individual estimates for a list of selected issues synchronously. In real time, they engage in discussions to reach a consensus, and the moderator approves the final estimation, repeating the process for each issue until the session is finished. That’s it for the Interactive session! If your team members are located in different time zones or have conflicting schedules that prevent them from participating in real-time, fear not! You can use the Asynchronous estimation method instead.

Asynchronous Session

The Asynchronous session is designed for teams that either cannot or prefer not to estimate simultaneously. If your team members are located in different time zones or have conflicting schedules, this session type offers a flexible approach to estimation. Step 1: Start an Asynchronous Session (Moderator)

To create an Asynchronous session, you need to follow a simple 3-step wizard. For detailed instructions, refer to the article below:

Step 2: Perform Asynchronous Estimation

During this session, the moderator picks the issues to estimate while configuring the session, and participants estimate the issues whenever they find it convenient. Afterward, the moderator closes the personal estimation phase and proceeds to the final estimation phase. Check out the article below for more information:
