Security

  • I don’t need to restrict access to BigPicture → all monday members are granted access to BigPicture and its configuration.

  • Restrict BigPicture access to specific users → selected monday members and teams are assigned BigPicture admin role. Other app roles can be assigned later.

Box creation

It is required to create a box during an initial installation. After that, it is possible to skip the box creation step and choose Proceed without creating button:

As a result, the Overview module opens directly.

With Boxes, you can group all your boards and the items they contain into portfolios.

  • Add boards to a box:

    • main, private, or shareable boards only

    • from any workspace

  • Enter a box name

Column mapping

field-mapping.png

Column mapping lets BigPicture know where data can be found in board columns, regardless of the column name. You can work with all items in a single BigPicture box, even if your monday boards don't have an identical column setup. You can define separate column mapping for monday items and monday subitems.

  • start/end fields - use timeline or date columns. This information is used to position items on a Gantt chart. By default, the leftmost timeline column of a monday board is used.

    • If you are using a timeline column, enter the same column as both the ‘start’ and ‘end’ dates.

    • If you are using date columns, use two different columns for the ‘start’ and ‘end’ date.

More fields:

  • Assignee - use people columns. By default, the leftmost people column of a monday board is used.

  • Estimates - use number columns to map the Original estimate, Time spent, and Story points.

Info

If an appropriate board column doesn't exist, leave the fields as 'not synchronized'. You will be able to add columns to a monday board and adjust the field mapping in the future.

more-fields.png

It is possible to leave the fields as ‘not synchronized’. You will still be able to use BigPicture, but data will not be synchronized with any board columns.

For example, if you don’t synchronized start/end dates, you can still place your items on a Gantt chart, but the timeline data isn’t reflected in monday. Similarly, you can still enter the original estimate, or story points directly in BigPicture. Capacity and workload will be calculated and the app will function normally.

If you want to calculate ‘remaining capacity’, the ‘time spent’ column must be both added to a monday board and mapped. The remaining capacity is calculated automatically based on the original estimate and time spent; remaining capacity can’t be calculated if the time spent column doesn’t exist or isn’t mapped.

It is NOT recommended to leave the fields as ‘not synchronized’. In such cases, when you delete a box or remove boards from the box scope, the ‘not synchronized’ data is lost.
