Widget notifications enhance the chat experience on the Jira Customer Portal and external websites by providing both visual and auditory alerts about agent replies.

Visual Notifications

Seamlessly integrated into the widget, visual notifications offer an intuitive update mechanism when an agent sends a new message to a customer. No configuration is required for visual notifications; they are built-in and offer a straightforward solution for enhancing the customers' awareness during chat interactions.

New Message Indicator:

When the customer receives a new message, a notification badge in the form of a green circle will appear on the Chat Widget icon, displaying the number of new messages.

On the Jira Customer Portal, the green circle will appear on the Chat Widget button.

Chat threads with new messages from support agents will be highlighted in grey, ensuring the customers can quickly identify and access the latest information.

Sound Notifications

Sound notifications add an auditory element to alert users about new messages from agents, ensuring they never miss a message. The customer initiating the chat can adjust sound notification preferences by clicking the three dots icon on the Chat Widget. This will reveal options, allowing the user to click Turn off sound.

  • Activating Sound Notifications:

    • To hear sound notifications, users must ensure that their browser settings allow such alerts. For more information, refer to this documentation.

    • Users with default sound settings may need to interact with the page by clicking anywhere after refreshing to activate sound notifications on external web pages.

    • To activate sound notifications on the Jira Customer Portal, the users need to interact with the widget itself by clicking on it after refreshing.
