Cannot update the value of a custom field

When dragging a card, the following error message may be sometimes displayed.

This error means that your Jira configuration does not allow you to update the value of the custom field in the current screen. The custom field is not yet associated with the Canvas default screen.

Associate the custom field to the default screen

In the following example, we show how to associate the custom field "Story Points" to the "Default Screen".

Remember the user needs administration permission to perform the following actions.

  • log in as a user with the Jira Administrator permission

  • choose  > Issues

  • select Custom fields to open the Custom fields page

This page lists all custom fields.

  • select  in the Story Points row to select "Screens"

  • select the appropriate screen to associate the "Story Points" field (in this case, "Default Screen")

  • choose Save

Then, go back to your board

The error message is no longer displayed and the value of the custom field can be updated.
