Migration from server/Data Center to cloud

Migration from server/Data Center to cloud

This page explains the migration support details for the Excel for Confluence app data from the server/Data Center to the cloud.

Before migrating your Excel for Confluence app macro content from server/Data Center to the cloud, we recommend reading the Cloud migration guide to plan your migration.

Pre-requisites

Administrators must ensure that the following feature flag is enabled in the server/DC instance as a part of the pre-migration setup:

  • migration-assistant.app-migration.feature: <Confluence_URL>/admin/darkfeatures.action

Refer to the Getting started Atlassian page for more information about the prerequisites for the migration.

Migration process

  • Before you begin, ensure you have all the required applications installed on the Data Center and the cloud. Refer to Prerequisites.

  • Confluence instance migration - Use the Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant app to migrate everything you need from the Confluence server/Data Center to Atlassian Cloud.

  • The Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant provides a detailed step-by-step procedure to migrate the required content. Atlassian does this job for you in most cases.

On completion of migration from version 7.0.0:

  • All global configuration data in the Configuration page is transferred from the server/Data Center instance to the cloud instance.

  • If multiple migrations are performed on the same cloud instance, the latest migration takes precedence.

  • Any subsequent migrations performed on the same cloud instance only adds or merges the data, but does not delete any existing data.

  • Migration of Profiles using CCMA is supported from Excel for Confluence, server version 7.3.1.

Important information:

  • The migration of data from the server/Data Center to the cloud is an independent process from app installation or configuration in your cloud instance. We recommend that administrators verify that all your data (configuration as well as your Confluence pages) are displayed properly after the migration process is completed. To report any issues, open a support ticket.

  • We capture certain details, excluding private user data and any personally identifiable information, during the migration process to help us improve our app continually. Refer to the Analytics data to know more about the information collected.

Differences between server/Data Center and cloud versions

The Excel macro features available in the server/Data Center versions are mostly supported in the cloud version. The following table lists the macro's parameters and features that work differently in server/Data Center and cloud:
