Migration from Data Center to cloud
This page explains the migration support details for the Excel for Confluence app data from the Data Center to the cloud.
Before migrating your Excel for Confluence app macro content from Data Center to the cloud, we recommend reading the Cloud migration guide to plan your migration.
Pre-requisites
Install the latest version of the Excel for Confluence app on the Data Center instance. (Migration is supported from Excel for Confluence, Data Center version 7.4.4)
Install the latest version of the Excel for Confluence app on your cloud instance.
Install Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant on the Data Center instance from which you intend to migrate the Excel for Confluence app configurations.
If you are using the Connect on Forge version of the app on the cloud and your Data Center version is below 7.4.4, you will see a warning message when you attempt to migrate from Data Center to the cloud.
You can migrate only from the latest version of the Excel for Confluence Data Center app, starting with version 7.4.4, to the Forge remote version of your cloud app, and subsequent versions.
Administrators must ensure that the following feature flag is enabled in the Data Center instance as a part of the pre-migration setup:
migration-assistant.app-migration.feature: <Confluence_URL>/admin/darkfeatures.action
For more information about the migration prerequisites, refer to the Getting started Atlassian page.
Migration process
Before you begin, ensure you have all the required applications installed on the Data Center and the cloud. Refer to Prerequisites.
On the Data Center instance, navigate to the Migration Assistant home screen: General Configuration > Atlassian Cloud > Migration Assistant.
With the help of Migration Assistant, you can migrate global app configurations, users, and groups, as required. For more information, refer to Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant.
On completion of migration starting with version 7.4.4 and subsequent versions:
All global configuration data in the Configuration page is transferred from the Data Center instance to the cloud instance.
If multiple migrations are performed on the same cloud instance, the latest migration takes precedence.
Any subsequent migrations performed on the same cloud instance only adds or merges the data, but does not delete any existing data.
Important information:
The migration of data from the Data Center to the cloud is an independent process from app installation or configuration in your cloud instance. We recommend that administrators verify that all your data (configuration and Confluence pages) is displayed properly after the migration process is completed. To report any issues, open a support ticket.
We capture certain details during the migration process, excluding private user data and any personally identifiable information, to help us continually improve our app. Refer to the Analytics data to know more about the data collected.
Difference between Data Center and cloud versions
The Excel macro features available in the Data Center versions are mostly supported in the cloud version. The following table lists the macro's parameters and features that work differently in Data Center and cloud:
Last updated Jan 22, 2026
Parameter/Feature | Data Center | Cloud | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
URL whitelisting | Supported natively by Confluence | Administrators must manually whitelist the URLs in the Global Configuration page, because Confluence Cloud does not natively support URL whitelisting. | For more information, refer to CLOUD-2636. |
Blacklist domains |
|
| Due to certain technical restrictions, the feature is not available in the app's cloud version. |
Profiles | Administrators configure some parameters, such as the base URL of the location, user name, password, and so on, required to access Excel files from external locations. Users can provide the relative path that points to the actual location of the files through a relevant profile. To know more about profiles, refer to the documentation. | ||

Language for number and date formats Country for number and date formats | Due to certain technical restrictions, these parameters are not available in the app's cloud version. For updates on the Language parameter, refer to https://appfire.atlassian.net/browse/XL-386. For updates on the Country parameter, refer to https://appfire.atlassian.net/browse/XL-385. | ||
Table Filter, Pivot Table, and Chart from Table macros | Confluence Cloud does not support the use of inline macros. | ||
Ignoring trailing blank rows and columns | Due to certain technical restrictions, this feature is not available with the app's cloud version. | ||
