Troubleshooting the "No projects left to import.." error during import using Project Configurator for Jira

Problem Statement

This article explains a workaround for the error message “No projects left to import. Project(s) XXX will not be imported because they exist and are not empty in this JIRA instance“ during an import using Project Configurator for Jira app even if the same project is not available in the target instance.

Error Message

No projects left to import. Project(s) XXX will not be imported because they exist and are not empty in this JIRA instance

Cause

If there is any kind of data corruption happening in the temp directories used by Project Configurator and the app may be trying to use obsolete information.

Solution

  1. Delete everything from /opt/atlassian/jira/temp (specifically, directories like “/opt/atlassian/jira/temp/com.awnaba.projectconfigurator1640684525665”) and from /var/atlassian/application-data/jira/import/projectconfigurator.

  2. Restart and reindex Jira.

Before deleting the files, it is always suggested to have a backup of the data. Try the workaround in a non-production environment before deleting the files in the production instance.
