Configuration Manager for Jira - Difference between the Select Apps page and the Missing Plugins page

This article explains the difference between the apps shown on the Select Apps page and the Missing Plugins page during deployment using the Configuration Manager for Jira (CMJ) app.

Select Apps

  1. The Select Apps page is seen during the CMJ’s snapshot creation wizard:

  2. It shows only the apps that implement CMJ’s Service Provider Interface (SPI) in order to export and import the "global" configuration and apps' data of the apps on the system.

  3. One can export and import app data between Jira instances with the snapshots if,

    • the app integrates with the CMJ, and

    • the app has the SPI app data integration point implemented.

  4. All the apps integrated with CMJ are found in the List of Integrated Apps document.

Missing Plugins

  1. The Missing Plugins page is seen during the Analyze phase of snapshot deployment in the target instance.

  2. The Missing Plugins page displays the list of the apps that are missing or disabled on the target instance but are present on the source instance.

  3. This means that the snapshot contains the configuration objects data from the apps like custom fields, workflows, post functions, etc., and these are necessary when deploying the snapshot in the target instance to prevent any data loss or functionality issues.

  4. The missing plugins must be enabled or installed in the target instance to continue with the deployment.
