BigPicture - Assignment of multiple resources to a single Jira work item
Standard Resource Planning
In the standard planning model, BigPicture attributes all planning and execution metrics to the task assignee.
If a task is assigned to Person A, but Person B logs work:
Capacity
Utilization
Effort consumption
Remaining effort
Progress
Costs
are all calculated for Person A.
Currently, differences between the task assignee and the user who logs work are not reflected in Resource or utilization calculations.
Planned enhancement: BigPicture is planned to attribute worklogs and related metrics to the user who actually logged the work. This enhancement is planned to be released within Q4 2026
Multi-team Planning
Multi-team Planning uses its own planning data, independent of Jira.
Its estimates are not synchronized with:
Original Estimate (OE)
Remaining Estimate (RE)
Story Points
Task assignee
Team assigned to the task
When calculating team capacity, you can choose whether to use Original/Remaining Estimate or Multi-team Planning estimates. This allows team-level planning to be managed independently of Jira's native estimation fields.
Besides breaking down task into smaller work items, we can offer a workaround on a team level - on July 1st we released a new feature called Multi-team planning. It enables planning effort of multiple teams on a single item. Then it can be compared to the Team capacity in the Resources panel on the Gantt chart. In the next release we will also enable capacity allocation tracking of Multi-team Planning fields on Resources module.
