TFS4JIRA Self-Hosted - How to display web application-related error details

Below error screen may be displayed during TFS4JIRA Self-Hosted startup or during UI operations.

To obtain more details about this error, please follow three solutions below:

Solution 1

  1. Log in to the environment where TFS4JIRA is installed.

  2. EDIT web.config file (default location: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\tfs-jira-synchronizer)

  3. Add entry <customErrors mode="Off"/> nested in first <system.web>

     

  4. Save web.config. This will recycle the application pool


Solution 2

This solution does not apply to all web application errors. It is recommended to use Solution 1

The details of the error message may also be recorded in the TFS4JIRA log files. Here is how they can be reached.

  1. Log in to the environment where TFS4JIRA is installed.

  2. With windows explorer, please navigate to the application log file folder. Default location: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\tfs-jira-synchronizer\App_Data\log

  3. In the above folder, please look for a file named: tfssync.log

  4. You can open this file with the Notepad application, for example, and scroll to the last line where the error is recorded.


Solution 3

The same error is also recorded in the Windows Event Logs. To obtain such logs, please follow below.

  1. Open the event viewer window with the command: eventvwr

  2. In the left tree, please expand Windows Logs and choose Application

  3. Search for any Errors or Warnings
