Can I synchronize Jira fields with Swanly if I scheduled issues in Swanly and wish to keep them?
This feature isn’t yet available in production.🚀
You can connect an issue’s Swanly start and end dates to your Jira fields and keep them synchronized. That way, you can sync Jira roadmaps and your Swanly view. You can keep using Jira roadmaps on the project level and create a portfolio overview in Swanly.
However, if you’ve already scheduled some issues in Swanly before deciding to synchronize the field with Jira, you might want to be able to keep those dates once you synchronize.
We strongly recommend going through this process with your Jira admin and potentially testing on a new Jira instance before you run them in your main Jira.
Step 1: Prepare your CSV file
In Jira, navigate to Apps > Swanly roadmaps > Issue view > List.
Make sure there are no filters applied in the List then click Export to export a CSV file.
Open the CSV file and remove the issues without a start and end date filled.
Check the issues and make sure that the existing dates are correct.
Save the changes in your CSV file.
Step 2: Connect Swanly to Jira fields
In Jira, navigate to Apps > Swanly roadmaps > Issue view > Issue settings > Settings.
Click Change fields in the Connect Swanly dates with Jira fields section.
From the drop-down, select fields for the Swanly start and end dates.
Click Save.
Step 3: Import previous Swanly dates from CSV to Jira fields
In Jira, navigate to Settings > System > External system import.
Select the Import from CSV option and click Next.
In the Import to project section, select Defined in CSV and change the date format to dd/mm/yyyy.
Click Next.
Map fields from the CSV file to Jira as follows:
a. Issue key column to Issue key field in Jira, and check the Map the field value checkbox.
b. Project column to Project name field in Jira, and check the Map the field value checkbox.
c. Start date column to the field that was configured as a Start date in Swanly.
d. End date column to the field that was configured as End date in Swanly.
5. Click Next and begin import.
Once the import is done, go to Swanly to view imported dates for the issues set previously; fields between Jira and Swanly will still be in sync.
Given we selected to map the field value option for issue key and project name fields instead of creating new issues, the import script will find the existing ones and update the date fields instead.
Import issues limit
Some Jira instances might have a limit on how many issues can be imported at once; for example, 1000. If you're planning to upload more than 1000 issues, you can split them into different CSV files and do the import multiple times.
