Objective progress
Overview
The Objective’s progress can be automatically calculated by the app or manually updated by the user.
Calculate the Objective progress
The progress of an Objective is always expressed as a percentage.
The individual sub-items impact the parent item’s progress based on their contribution (weight).
Objective progress = The sum of progress of all direct sub-items divided by the total number of those sub-items.
The direct supporting sub-items can include:
Sub-objectives
Key Results
linked work items (they affect the automatic Key Results’ progress)
linked boxes (the work items in the scope of linked boxes affect the automatic Key Results’ progress)
Below, you can see an Objective (highlighted in blue) and the three direct sub-items (highlighted in yellow). Objective’s progress is based on these three sub-items and their weight.
Objective progress: Example
Given:
Total number of direct sub-items = 3
Key Result 1 progress =66.67% and its weight = 1
Key Result 2 progress = 9.41% and its weight = 1
Key Result 3 progress = 20% and its weight = 1
Therefore:
Objective progress = (66.67%x1 + 9.42%x1 + 20%x1)/3 = 32.03%
Auto-Objective
In the auto mode, the progress of the Objective is calculated automatically by the app based on the progress of the linked sub-items. As your teams work toward their OKRs and update the status of the associated sub-items, the Objective progress automatically updates.
Objectives in the auto progress mode require minimal user intervention to maintain accurate tracking.
Manual Objective
In the manual mode, the user updates the progress of the Objective.
Set an Objective to auto or manual mode
You can set the progress mode for an Objective in two ways:
On the New Objective modal (when you create a new Objective)
On the OKR details page (by converting an Objective progress mode)
