Box scheduling settings and task scheduling modes can automatically overwrite start/end dates.
Include existing tasks from a task source
You can add existing tasks to a Box by adjusting its scope definition. For example, items that already exist in tools such as Jira and Trello can be included in your box.
Go to: Add task > Manage scope definition to make adjustments. Check the Scope definitions page for more information.

When a box doesn't contain tasks you see the following splash screen:

This option lets you add existing tasks from a Jira project.
Scope definition settings appear in a pop-up:
To access advanced settings, click the Advanced options link at the bottom:
Portfolio boxes (none scope boxes)
You can’t add tasks to portfolio boxes (none scope boxes). The +Add task and inline create features are disabled.
To add new tasks, go to the sub-box of the portfolio box.
To add new tasks:
Go to the sub-box where you want to add new tasks. To find it faster, add the Sub-box column to the view.
Add tasks at the sub-box level.
Return to the portfolio box to see the updated view.
