Managing Project creation permissions
Permissions types
There are 2 permission types:
- Groups of users that can create projects from templates
- People that can be designated as the project lead during the project creation. Please note that:
- If no group is specified then the project lead will default to the project creator.Â
- If the group specified only has 1 user then the project lead will automatically become that user.
Adding groups to a permission type
- Select the group to add from the drop down
- Click "Add group"
Removing groups from a permission type
- Click "Delete" Â next to the group that you want to remove permissions for
Creating, deleting or editing a project template
Once installed, the administrator will see Project Creator under the Plugins drop down menu in the JIRA administration view. Click on the Project Creator option and you will be presented with the administration page.
Â
From this page you can:
- Set up Project templatesÂ
- Manage Permissions
- Create Component Schemes
- Create Version schemes
- Create Project Role Schemes
Getting Started with a new template
To create a new template - type in the name of the template and click on the add button (Â ).
Name | A user friendly name of the template (make it descriptive – this is what the creator of the project will see) |
---|---|
Internal description | Internal 'administrator only' text explaining what the template is about. |
Editing or deleting an existing template
To edit or delete an existing template - click on Edit () or Delete ()Â next to the template.
From this screen you can:
# | Description |
---|---|
1 | Delete, Edit or copy a template |
2 | View the number of projects created from the template (and which ones they are) |
3 | View and edit the description |
4 | View and edit the name of the template |
Defining the ingredients for your template
 | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Guidance note | User friendly description shown during the creation of the project. |
2 | Parent template | The template to "inherit" values from. Any values specified in the template will override the parent template. Essentially, rather than manually duplicating an entire Project Creator for JIRA template you can now designate a "parent" template. Then in your current template simply override the areas that you want to change. |
3 | Limit to group | A subset of the groups that should see this template to create projects from |
4 | Project Categories | The name of the project categories that the project creator can select to put the newly created project in. If you only select one item - the creator will not be presented with a project categories option. Options will only appear if there are two or more for them to choose from. |
5 | Default Assignee | The default assignee |
6 | Components | The name of the component scheme |
7 | Versions | The name of the version scheme |
8 | Workflow | The workflow scheme to associate with the project. |
9 | Permissions | The notification scheme to associate with the project (make sure that the Project Lead has access to utilize the project). |
10 | Issue Security | Â |
11 | Notifications | The notification scheme to associate with the project. |
12 | Screens | The screen scheme to associate with the project. |
13 | Issue Type | The issue type scheme to associate with the project. |
14 | Fields | The field scheme to associate with the project. |
15 | Project Roles | The name of the project role scheme. |
Creating Component and Version schemes
These are collections of component and version entries that are used when a project is created.
Once the project has been created altering the scheme will not affect any projects previously created from the schemes.
Project Role Schemes
Creating Project Role Schemes
These are collections of project roles that are used when a project is created.
Once the project has been created altering the scheme will not affect any projects previously created from the schemes.
Â
In order for the project roles to be applied - the creator has to be an project administrator. We suggest making sure your permissions scheme has the 'project lead' be able to administrate the project.
Â
Provide a name and click Add (or if you have a previous scheme - click Edit).
If you know the username - enter that into the text field and click Add. Otherwise, click Find User (or Find Group).
Once you're done - click Close.
Removing the default project roles
As of Project Creator for JIRA 2.1, you can now select by checking the "Exclude default roles" option.
