[DC] OKR types (levels)
This page is about OKR for Jira Data Center. Using Cloud? Click here.
OKR Type is an attribute you can assign to your objectives to indicate their scope and focus; for example, whether an objective is at the company, team, or individual level.
By default, the app includes predefined types such as:
Company OKRs
Team OKRs
Personal OKRs
You can also create custom OKR types, such as department-level or squad-level OKRs, to better suit your organization's structure.
How to choose an OKR type
All users can see and use any OKR type defined in the instance. You can select or modify the OKR type in two ways:
While creating a new objective:
Navigate to the Create Objective form.
In the second part of the form, click the OKR Type dropdown.
Choose from the default or custom types already available in your instance.
Fill in the remaining fields and click Create Objective.
From the objective’s detail page
Open the detail page of any existing objective.
In the Info section, locate the OKR Type field.
If no type is set, click Set type... and choose from the dropdown.
You can update the OKR type at any time by selecting a different value.
How to create a new OKR type
To define your own OKR types (for example, Department, Squad, Tribe):
Go to Settings.
Select OKR Types from the menu.
Click + Add new type. A dialog will appear.
Enter the name for the new type and choose its icon and color.
Click Save.
Your new OKR type will:
Appear in all OKR Type dropdown menus across the app.
Be listed under the Your custom OKR types section in the settings.
How to manage default OKR types
You can control the visibility of the default OKR types:
In Settings > OKR Types, click the eye icon next to any default type.
Eye icon = Visible in dropdowns
Crossed-out eye = Hidden from all dropdowns
This helps streamline your options and tailor the app to your company’s preferred OKR structure.
