You can customize the numbering format instead of using the default numbering.

Number format
You can select the format you want to use to number your headings. You can choose from several default settings or define your custom formatting.

Starting number
The default starting number is 1. You can configure it here to start at a higher number.
You can add a comma-separated list to change the starting number of several levels of headings. For example, adding 1,3,3 starts the second and third heading at 3.
Starting heading
The default heading to start numbering is H1. For example, you can choose a different heading if you want to have unnumbered titles.
Skip headings
By default, all headings are included. You can configure this to skip certain headings. You can choose multiple headings by separating them with a comma.
For example, if you only want to number headings as 1 - 3, you can skip the rest of the headings by entering this list: H4, H5, H6.
Add anchor links
You can include anchor links to your numbered headings in page-level configuration. Check this box to include anchors in all the headings in the document. The primary function of adding anchors is to enable cross-referencing of content across different pages. Refer to the Numbered Heading Reference Macro for more information.
Custom format
When you select custom as the Number format, additional fields are added to the configuration. Each field represents a heading level and allows you to define your numbering format for this heading.
When a field is left empty, the heading is not numbered.
The format can consist of a combination of regular characters and number values. Numbering values can be added in between square brackets and have the following format:
[heading.format]Replace the heading with the heading level you want to use: H1 - H6. Replace the format with one of the available formats from the Number format table earlier on this page.

While the formatting options remain consistent for the Numbered headings macro and Page numbering, you may notice a subtle difference in the UX design.
