Space permissions and restrictions to consider when using the page numbering feature.

Every space has specified permissions managed by the space admin(s). The success or failure of page numbering depends on various factors, including page restrictions and other space permissions. It is essential to determine if a user has specific page permissions or is a member of specific group which has edit permissions. Learn more about Confluence space permissions and settings. 

Consider the following cases:

Anyone in the space can view, only some can edit

If you have the permission to view and edit a page, page numbering will be successful.

Anyone in the space can view or edit:

If there are no restrictions, any user can update the page numbering.

Only specific people can view or edit

If you have explicit permissions or a member of specific a group which has edit permissions, then page numbering will be successful. Otherwise, it will result in an error.

Page is restricted to specific groups

If you belong to the group with access to the restricted page, page numbering will be successful. Otherwise, it will fail.
