JQL search extensions provides over 100 keywords and functions to enhance your JIRA search capabilities. The functions can be used from the extended search page in the app. To use a function, first select JQL search extensions from the apps menu in the left-hand pane. This opens the extended search page. Then, in the query input field, start by typing Issue in. Here we're using the function added to sprint after start. This can help identify how many issues are being added to each sprint after the start, so you can prevent scope creep. Put the board title in quotation marks. You can then add the sprint or sprints, or you can leave the board title to see all sprints. Then click Search. A list of matching issues displays. Previously, users faced limitations when using advanced JQL functions in the native Jira search interface because more than 20 custom functions were only available through the JQL Search Extensions app. The queries users normally enter in the app interface can now be used throughout Jira. With the latest update, these advanced extensions are now embedded in Jira's built-in search, allowing users to access detailed information without disrupting their existing workflow. By acting as a translation layer, the application transforms custom functions into native Jira JQL queries. This facilitates seamless integration for complex searches involving hierarchies, linked issues, or specific comments. Users can now enter functions directly in the standard Jira search interface, eliminating the need to toggle between applications. Furthermore, any resulting queries can be saved as filters, following standard Jira protocols. For complex queries requiring processing time beyond 25 seconds, a notification will indicate that background execution is in progress. Since Jira caches these results, users can re-execute the search after a brief period. Filters are automatically synchronized every three minutes to ensure data integrity. Furthermore, other applications that use native Jira search, such as BigPicture or JMWE, can now leverage these custom functions, resulting in a unified experience across the Jira instance when the JQL SE app is installed.
