Clone issue with the parent field of the original issue
This page details how to clone an issue with the parent field of the original issue.
You can use this feature to choose whether you want to copy the parent field from the original issue when cloning. If you choose to copy the parent field from the original issue when cloning, this feature also helps you maintain the same parent-child relationship.
For example, you can decide whether the cloned user story should belong to the same epic as the original issue.
Prerequisite
When creating a clone operation, ensure your Jira administrator has set the Parent field to the Original issue’s parent on the Properties page. For more details, refer to the Clone Plus for Jira configuration—Cloud page.
Steps
Select an issue you want to clone in your Jira instance. For example, consider an issue with the Parent link as shown in the following image.
In the top-right corner, select Actions
> Clone Plus option or the
Clone Plus quick-add button for any issue.
On the Clone Plus for Jira page, select the clone operation for which the Parent field is set to the Original issue’s parent, and other values as required.
Click Clone.
On the Create issue page, select values for all the issue fields as required.
Click Create.
Jira displays a successful issue creation message, and the issue is cloned with the Parent field of the original issue.
Similar to a single clone, this feature also supports bulk clone, allowing you to clone multiple issues with the parent field of the original issue.
If the Parent field is blank for the original issue, the Parent field won't be cloned.
If the Parent field on the Properties page mentioned in the prerequisite is not set to the Original issue's parent, the Parent field won’t be cloned.
