Meet the new BigPicture navigation
A faster, smarter, and more intuitive way to work is here. We’ve redesigned BigPicture navigation to give you a smoother experience and better access to what matters most.
→ Discover what’s new, explore key improvements, and review feature name updates on the New navigation page.
→ The rollout will happen gradually, and the previous navigation will be retired in September 2026.
Contextual reports
Contextual reports are a BigPicture Enterprise feature.
The following modules:
Overview
Gantt
Scope
Resources
Board,
offer advanced contextual reporting capabilities for a quick look-up on key metrics applicable to the selected project, program, portfolio, and sub-box.
The contextual reports cannot be customized, but you can choose which ones you want to view, refresh them to show the most up-to-date data, and enlarge them for better visibility.
The following reports are available:
Permissions and access
Permissions
To view the contextual reports, a user must have at least the Box Viewer role. To manage and edit contextual reports in any module, the user must have the Box Admin or Box Editor role.
When the user lacks permissions to certain boxes, tasks, or OKRs, the report displays data for the boxes/tasks/OKRs to which the user can access.
In such a case, the “Only your set of data is taken into account” message displayed at the bottom of the report informs you about this.
Access
The contextual reports are available in every box scope type and box type, but not in the Home/root box.

Enable/Disable contextual reports
Various modules display a specific set of reports by default. To hide or enable other reports, click the Charts button and select or unselect the report from the dropdown.
The screenshot below comes from the BigPicture Enterprise Cloud app. The OKRs by Status report is not available in BigPicture Enterprise Data Center.
Contextual reports
Effort progress
The Effort progress report displays the project's progress in terms of effort according to the following formula: timeSpent / (remainingEstimate + timeSpent).
This report displays three data points, summarizing all the tasks in the scope of the selected box.
Original Estimate (this data point is always colored 100% and shows only the value of the Original Estimate)
Time Spent (Formula of the blue bar indicating the progress of the Time Spent:
timeSpent / (remainingEstimate + timeSpent))Remaining Estimate (Formula of the blue bar indicating the remaining estimated effort in the project:
remaining estimate / (remainingEstimate + timeSpent))
Boxes by status
The Boxes by status report displays the number of boxes in each status and the percentage of all boxes in each status.
This report displays three data points, summarizing the three available box statuses: Not started, In progress, and Closed.
Mouse over each status on the pie chart to see the total number of boxes with a given status inside the chart.
Teams capacity
The Teams capacity report displays the teams' capacity. The allocation is color-coded to help you quickly spot over- and underallocation. The color-coding is based on the capacity color and threshold setup in the box type.
This report displays four data points about the teams:
Names
Total capacity
Assigned workload
Remaining capacity.
Currently, the capacity and workload are expressed only in hours.
Project health
The Project health report visualizes project health based on the RAG system (Red-Amber-Green).
It displays a clean, visual status overview with three colors: Green (on track), Amber (caution/risks), and Red (critical issues/immediate action needed).
The following project health indicators are shown:
Progress burndown
Capacity vs. workload
When a team's workload exceeds the capacity thresholds defined in the Administration settings, the indicator’s color status will update automatically. For example, if a team with a capacity of 10 story points is assigned 12 story points for the Sprint, the 120% utilization rate triggers an "exceeded capacity" (Red or Amber) status.
High severity risks
Change the report view
The report offers two different views you can switch between by clicking the corresponding button:
Pie chart: Shows health statuses for the parent box (based on all child boxes). If the box has no children, no data is displayed.
Table: Shows health statuses for the current box.
Pie chart view | Table view |

To see which child boxes fall within the selected RAG category, switch to the pie chart view and click the corresponding color on the chart.
Customize the indicator thresholds
The color-status thresholds for each indicator can be customized by a Jira/App Admin in App settings > Administration > Reports.
Customize the RAG settings
Box Admins and Box Editors can customize the report:
Click the cog button on the report.
Select one option in each category:
RAG selection:
Automatic - based on all metrics (app automatically assigns the overall project health status)
Manual - user selected (user assigns the project health status manually)
[add visual]
Switch to the table view and click the top health indicator to open the dropdown. Then, select the status to assign it to the current box.
Report scope:
Portfolio
Own-scope
Sub-boxes
Progress:
Original estimate
Story points
Burndown progress calculations are based on your selected configuration, which currently supports either story points or original estimate as the primary metric. It is not possible to calculate the combined project health when some child boxes have effort expressed in story points and others in the original estimate.
