Upcoming Changes: Merging Board and Goals Modules
We’re introducing an important update to how you plan and track work in BigPicture by bringing together the Board and Goals (former Objectives) modules into a more unified experience.
What’s changing?
We plan to merge the Board and Goals modules into a single, integrated view. This will combine defining goals for your Iteration, Sprint, and Program increments with planning and tracking work execution.
As a result, teams will get a single goals-and-delivery view that connects strategy with execution more seamlessly.
The changes are planned only for BigPicture for Jira Cloud and are scheduled for Q3 2026.
Why are we making this change?
BigPicture supports a wide range of project and portfolio management use cases, and over time we’ve seen how closely related goal-setting and delivery tracking really are.
You can already associate work with goals in the Goals module and view goals in the Board module.
By combining them, you can:
See how work contributes to goals and track progress without switching modules
Align teams more effectively
Navigate more easily with fewer modules to manage
Clarify relationships between data
Additionally, this change clarifies that goals are operational, team-level targets, especially useful for teams using the SAFe framework, while the recent OKRs module (available on BigPicture Advanced) is designed more for strategic objectives and suits company and department levels following the Objectives & Key Results framework. We don’t want to confuse teams about which module to use to set their objectives.
