Forge-related changes

Canned Responses Pro is moving to Atlassian’s Forge platform to ensure better performance, scalability, and compliance with Atlassian’s latest standards.

As part of this transition, the Canned Responses Pro panel will behave differently on work item pages. There is also an impact on Legacy Automation Rules. The details are outlined below.

What’s changing

Panel visibility on work items

Previously, the Canned Responses Pro panel appeared automatically when you opened a work item. After the move to Forge, the panel will be hidden by default due to platform limitations.

  • Admins will be able to make it visible for everyone by default.

  • Users will be able to open the panel manually by using the Canned Responses Pro button in the top work item menu.

You’ll still have full access to all your saved responses and templates. Only the way you open the panel will change.

Impact on Legacy Automation Rules

If your Jira instance still uses Legacy Automation Rules (the older automation framework in Jira Service Management), note the following:

  • After the migration to Forge, Legacy Automation Rules will stop working.

  • The Send Canned Response action no longer runs.

This limitation applies only to Legacy Automations. Support for Forge-based automations is planned for a future release.

How to make the panel visible for everyone (admins)

If you’re a Jira administrator, you can make the Canned Responses Pro panel visible on all work item pages by default.

  1. Open any Jira work item.

  2. From the top menu, click the Canned Responses Pro button.

    • If you don’t see it, click the Jira menu. The Canned Responses Pro option can appear there, depending on the number of apps installed in your instance.

  3. When the Canned Responses Pro panel appears, click the button next to the panel name.

  4. Select Show for all work items.

Once enabled, the panel will appear automatically on all work items for all users in your project.

How to open the panel in a work item (users)

If you’re not an administrator, you can still open the Canned Responses Pro panel for a specific work item:

  1. Open a Jira work item.

  2. From the top menu, click the Canned Responses Pro button.

    • If it’s not visible, click the Jira (more) menu to find it.

The panel will appear on the work item view.

This enables the panel only for the current work item. You can repeat this step for any work item you want to use Canned Responses Pro on.
