Confused states - Grey status circle
What are confused states?
If you rename a state in a workflow template, any associated workflows that were in that state is now considered as confused because the state no longer exists.
This may happen if you add a workflow across all the content in a space, and some of the documents previously had a workflow applied that had different states.
Documents in the previous state (that has been removed) can be displayed with the grey state indicator circle in the content byline.
The workflow state dialog box displays options to transition to any state in the existing workflow, including the new state.
How to fix?
It depends on which mode the workflow is added and applied to the content ...
When applying a space workflow across all the space content (space mode)
A workflow editor can amend the state in the workflow template – no more confused state!
A space administrator can choose to Initialize States if this has occurred across the space
End-users, for small-scale repairs, can manually transition to a valid state using the workflow state dialog box.
When applying a copy of a workflow to an individual page or blog post (page mode), an end-user with edit permission can manually transition to a valid state using the workflow state dialog box.
