What are custom domains?

Custom domains is the ability for an organization to select and implement their own branded URL for an Atlassian product. Check out Atlassian’s documentation for more information on how to enable and disable custom domains in your Jira Cloud instance.

Custom domains support

Currently, Configuration Manager for Jira Cloud does not support custom domains.

Opening Configuration Manager for Jira Cloud

When opening CMJ Cloud, you’ll get a notification that the app is unusable while custom domains are active because it cannot correctly determine your instance ID. The following error will appear when you try to create a deployment:

Jira custom domains are not supported

This Jira instance has a custom domain enabled. However, Configuration Manager for Jira Cloud does not yet support custom domains. Visit documentation

Additionally, the New deployment button will be greyed out until you disable the custom domains feature.

Migrating to a destination instance with enabled custom domains

When using the Cloud Migration Tool to set up a migration to a Cloud destination instance with custom domains enabled, you’ll get the following error:

The destination Jira instance <InstanceName> currently has a custom domain enabled, which we do not yet support.

Visit documentation

Additionally, when using Configuration Manager for Jira Cloud to deploy to destination instance with custom domains enabled, you’ll get the following error:

Jira custom domains are not supported

The destination Jira instance <InstanceName> currently has a custom domain enabled, which we do not yet support.

Custom domains tickets

We’re actively working on providing support for custom domains - https://appfire.atlassian.net/browse/CMJCP-9.

However, due to missing REST APIs, we are not able to provide support for custom domains at the moment. You can help us speed the process along by voting on this Atlassian issue.

Current workaround

You can disable the custom domains for your instance to use the CMJ Cloud app once again. If you choose to deactivate your custom domain, it will redirect to the original instance URL.

To disable your custom domains:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com.

  2. Select Products → Product URLs.

  3. Select the Custom domains tab.

  4. Select More Actions () → Deactivate domain.
