Skills make it easier for managers to assign tasks. Once skills are defined and assigned to individuals, BigPicture helps you find people with the appropriate background and the required capacity to complete tasks.

Skills need to be defined in order to:

  • Specify skills required to complete a task using the Skill Widget on the issue details page.

  • Assign resources to skills.

Once configured you can select a skill at the task level. The related effort is used to calculate the skill demand and is evenly distributed over the task's duration. The skill demand will be displayed in the Resource module's Skill panel.

At the resource level, you also need to assign the skills acquired by the resource. The resource’s time is allocated across different skills.

This page describes the following processes:

  1. Define a skill.

  2. Assign skills to resources.

  3. Add skills to tasks.

Security and Access

  • Only a person with the App Admin and App Resource Admin security role can create skills and assign them to resources.

  • To assign resources go to Administration > Resources > Individuals > click the resource name.

Define a Skill

Use the following steps to define a Skill in BigPicture.

  1. In the right-hand pane, click the App Settings icon and select Resources.

    Click App Settings and Resources.

  2. On the Resources tab, click Skills.

  3. Existing skills display. Click Add new skill.

  4. The Create Skill page displays. Enter a Name and Code, assign a Color, and add a description.

    Note: To create more than one skill, enter a checkmark in the “Create another” option.

  5. Click the Create button.

  6. The new skill displays in the list.

Assign Skills to Resources

Once skills are created in the system, they are assigned to individuals using the following steps:

  1. From the Resources tab, click Individuals.

    Click Resources and Individuals

  2. Select the person who possesses the skill.

  3. From the person’s landing page, scroll down to the Skills section and click +Add new.

  4. The Add Skill page displays. Select the appropriate skill from the drop-down list, and enter a Start Date. Note that a Start Date is required but the End Date is not. However, there may be a scenario where an individual is filling in for a role for a set period of time. For example, an employee is going to participate in market research for a month until a vacancy is filled. Click Add.

  5. The new skill now displays on the person’s landing page.

Add a Skill to a Task

With skills created and assigned to individuals, they can now be added to a board. With the skill assigned, the person managing the board can find the correct person to complete a task.

Use the following steps to add skills to a board.

  1. Open a monday board.

  2. Left-click the ellipse that displays to the left of an item and click Open.

  3. In the right-hand pane, click the Add View button.

  4. Search for skills. The BigPicture Skills Widget displays. Select Add to Item.

    In the search box, enter Skills. Then, select the BP Skills Widget.
  5. Now, the BigPicture Skills widget tab displays, allowing you to select individual skills associated with a particular task.

  6. The BigPicture Skills widget is now available when you open any task on the board. And skills can be added to a task.
