Introduction
There are different ways in which you can create tasks in BigPicture. Besides monday items, you can also create basic tasks that are displayed only in BigPicture.
Create new tasks (Gantt, Resources, Calendar modules)
Creating tasks looks exactly the same in the Gantt, Resources, and Calendar modules.
You can create:
Monday items
Basic tasks
Find out more about task dates here.
Monday items
To create a monday item:
Click the Add task menu icon.
Select Create task > Monday item.
Provide a name.
Complete the “Board” and “Group” fields.
To keep the creation modal opened after creating the current task, check the Create another option.
Click Create to confirm.
Basic tasks
Create a basic task and add it to the list of tasks. Such tasks will NOT be synchronized with monday or connected tools.
To create a basic task in a box: Click Add task > Create task > Basic task. You can also add a basic task directly on the task tree using the “plus” icon. Fill in the task information. To create a milestone, activate the Create as a milestone toggle switch. Only one date input will be available, because a milestone is a point in time and cannot have a duration of several days. To keep task creation modal open after creating the current task, check the Create another option. Click Create to confirm.
Create subtasks (Gantt module)
You can easily create subtasks in the Gantt module. BigPicture enables the creation of complex structures with multiple indents creating parent task-subtask relations. Creating a subtask simplifies the process by creating a new item as a child of the selected item. You can do or reverse those structural changes anytime by doing an indent or outdent of the tasks in the Gantt module.
Select a task on the task list to which you want to create a subtask.
Click the Add task menu icon.
Select Create subtask > Monday item or Basic task.
Provide necessary information depending on the selected subtask type.
Click Create to confirm.
Create tasks and subtasks inline (Gantt module)
In the Gantt module, you can quickly create new tasks and subtasks inline without leaving the task tree.
If structure builder rules are active and you try to create a task in a particular spot in the task tree, a task can be moved according to existing structure builders.
You can check structure builder rules on the Box configuration > Tasks > Task structure page.
Structure builder rules can be manually broken. This means that when you create a new task, it is placed according to structure builders, but afterward, you can move it.
If structure builders don't apply, tasks will be created exactly where you have manually specified.
Create new tasks inline
Create new tasks directly directly from the task tree. New tasks appear on the selected level in the hierarchy.
Create new subtasks inline
Create subtasks directly under a task that has children. Subtask is created when you click between a parent task and its first subtask.
Include existing tasks from a task source
You can add existing tasks to a Box by adjusting its scope definition. Items that already exist in monday can be included in your Box.
Go to: Add task > Manage scope definition to make adjustments.
Next, Select boards from the drop-down menu and click “Save”.

When a box doesn't contain tasks, you can see the following splash screen:
