If you and your teams are moving from Jira Server or Data Center to Jira Cloud (or from Jira Cloud to Jira Server or Data Center, for that matter), you’re more than likely wondering if the Issue Matrix Server and Cloud apps are compatible and how the move will impact you. The good news is that the migration process is very easy.

Moving to Issue Matrix for Jira Cloud

If you are wondering about moving to the cloud, the most important question probably is how you can easily migrate the app configuration and data so that the whole process is seamless for your teams and users.

For a step-by-step guide of the migration process from Jira Server/Data Center to Jira Cloud, check out the Migrate with Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA) page.

All you need to do to migrate from Server/Data Center to Cloud is to create the Issue Matrix custom fields as Issue Matrices(panels) in your projects' configurations on the Cloud. There is no automated way of doing it for now, but configuring Issue Matrix for Jira Cloud is a super-fast, easy, and intuitive process. You can learn more about how to configure and use Issue Matrix for Jira Cloud in our documentation.

The significant difference between the server and cloud apps is how you do the configuration. On Jira Server, after installation, you need to create custom fields of the Issue Matrix type. Once you are ready with the configuration, these custom fields will appear as tables in your issues when you view them in Jira.

On the contrary, on the cloud app, you need to create Issue Matrix panels in the project settings, and the configuration is not done via custom fields anymore. A single matrix configuration can be linked to many projects.

The migration requires creating Issue Matrices corresponding to the Issue Matrix custom fields on the server. To achieve it, you can use the project linking feature in the cloud app.

For detailed information about migrating, see the Atlassian’s document: https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloud/use-the-jira-cloud-migration-assistant-to-migrate-from-server-to-cloud-993925215.html .

What will be different?

We’ve put together a document describing the differences in functionality between Issue Matrix Server/Data Center and Issue Matrix for Jira Cloud. Please read the Differences between Issue Matrix Server and Cloud document to learn how the move will impact you in terms of Issue Matrix.

Do I need a new license?

You will need a new license if you’re moving to Jira Cloud since the Atlassian Marketplace treats the licenses differently. For more details, please visit https://www.atlassian.com/licensing/marketplace#general-faqs.
