You can connect issue start and end dates in Swanly with date fields in Jira and keep them in sync.

Once the connection with Jira fields is set, then when the field changes in Jira, it automatically updates in Swanly and vice versa. This connection is quite useful when you wish to keep using both, Jira project roadmaps, and Swanly, so you can keep the roadmaps in sync.

When you install Swanly, the issue start date gets mapped to the Start date field in Jira by default, and the End date in Swanly gets mapped to the Due date field in Jira. You can change the mapping to a different date field in Jira or disconnect the field altogether in Swanly settings.

If you installed Swanly before the 19 of July, 2021, you’ll need to manually select what Jira fields you’d like to map in Swanly. 👇 Follow the steps bellow:

How to change what Jira fields are connected to Swanly’s start and end dates?

  1. In the main Jira navigation, go to Apps > Swanly roadmaps > Issue view > Issue settings > Settings

  2. Click on the Change fields button in the Connect Swanly dates with Jira fields section

  3. Select fields for the Swanly start and end dates from the dropdown

  4. Click on the Save button

Saving these changes might take a few minutes depending on the number of issues you have in your projects. Once you save, you’ll notice that the issues in Swanly have updated their start and end dates based on the fields you selected. Now, if the selected field gets updated in Jira, then the issue start and end dates in Swanly update as well; it goes both ways.

What fields are available?

(tick) You can select any Jira field with a date format.

(error) You won’t be able to select fields that store both, dates and hours, or other Jira fields like text, number, dropdown select, and so on.

All dates set in Swanly for Start and End date get updated with values that are in selected Jira fields. If there are no dates set in Jira fields, there will also be no dates set in Swanly.

If you would like to keep Swanly dates that were set prior to the mapping, please read the following documentation for steps on how to do exactly that.

How to disconnect synchronization between Jira fields and Swanly issue start and end date?

  1. In the main Jira navigation, go to Apps > Swanly roadmaps > Issue view > Issue settings > Settings

  2. Click on the Change fields button in the Connect Swanly dates with Jira fields section

  3. Select the None option for the Swanly start and end date, from the dropdown

  4. Click on the Save button

Once you save, all dates in Swanly will go back to how they were before the changes. Now, if you update the start date in Swanly, the change will not be reflected in any of the Jira fields and vice versa.
