About Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA)

We’ve integrated Dataplane Reports with Atlassian’s Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA) app to provide an automated migration path for moving your Dataplane Reports app data to Dashboard Hub for Jira Cloud.

Atlassian JCMA app is free, pre-installed in every Jira Data Center and Server instance, and typically the main tool that Atlassian customers use to migrate their Jira data. So the Dataplane Reports-JCMA integration likely already fits seamlessly into your existing plans for migrating to Jira Cloud.

Migrating Dataplane Reports

Two different ways to migrate the Dataplane Reports of your organization to Dashboard Hub for Jira Cloud apply:
*Automated migration using Atlassian’s Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA)
OR
*Manually building reports in Dashboard Hub for Jira Cloud.

Automated migration with JCMA should accomplish much of what you need, but as you become familiar with Dashboard Hub for Jira Cloud, you may find it more expedite to build some reports directly in the Cloud or tweak the results of an automated JCMA migration to tailor the results to your liking.

Automated JCMA Migration

JCMA Migration Workflow

The following is a typical workflow for JCMA migration of Dataplane Reports data to Jira Cloud:

  1. ON JIRA DC/SERVER verify the JCMA app is installed and updated to the latest version

  2. ON JIRA CLOUD identify or create your target Jira Cloud instance

  3. ON JIRA CLOUD install the Dashboard Hub for the Jira Cloud app

  4. ON JIRA DC/SERVER go to the JCMA “Migration Assistant home” page by navigating to Jira Administration > System > Migrate to cloud

  5. ON JIRA DC/SERVER on the JCMA “Migration Assistant home” page, prepare for migrating Jira data by selecting the Dataplane Reports app for migration, assessing and preparing your users, and reviewing your users and email domains

  6. ON JIRA DC/SERVER create a new JCMA Migration plan—using “Choose what to migrate”—for migrating your Jira users, groups, projects, boards and filters (without Dataplane Reports data), and run this Migration plan to migrate the bulk of Jira data to Cloud

  7. ON JIRA DC/SERVER create a second JCMA Migration plan—using “Choose what to migrate”—for migrating Dataplane Reports app data. Run the pre-migration checks, select “View app vendor checks”, and review Dataplane Reports' pre-migration analysis of the availability of compatible reports in Dashboard Hub for Jira Cloud and any flagged issues such as invalid references to Jira projects, fields, filters, groups or users

  8. ON JIRA DC/SERVER& ON JIRA CLOUD correct any issues with the initial Jira data migration that were flagged by the Dataplane Reports' pre-migration checks

  9. ON JIRA DC/SERVER run the Dataplane Reports Migration plan to migrate app data to Cloud

  10. ON JIRA CLOUD navigate to Jira Settings > Apps > Post migration report (Dashboard Hub). For the migration just performed, click on “View Details” to review the post-migration report.

  11. ON JIRA CLOUD navigate to Apps > Dashboard Hub to review the new Dashboard Hub dashboards and gadgets created from your Dataplane reports

  12. ON JIRA DC/SERVER & ON JIRA CLOUD correct any issues with the initial Dataplane Reports data migration
