What are asset permissions?

Asset permissions control user access to creating, viewing, updating, and deleting assets within specific asset types and schemes.

Creating permission schemes

App Administrators can create permission schemes through the Permissions Schemes page. These permissions can then be assigned to specific Asset Type Schemes and Asset Types.

Tip

A single permission scheme can be applied to multiple asset types.

Step 1: Create the permission scheme

  1. Navigate to Assets > Settings > Permission Schemes.

  2. Click the Create new permission scheme button.

  3. Give the permission scheme a name and, optionally, a description.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Select the permission scheme you've created, and click Configure. The Update permission scheme screen opens.

  6. Go to the asset permission you want to configure and click Edit.

  7. Configure the asset permission. The following table lists the different types of asset permissions:

Permission

Description

Scheme Manager

Full access to browse, create, update, and delete assets.

Browse assets

View asset type scheme assets, use the Asset Navigator, and see individual asset details.

Delete asset

Permission to delete assets.

Create asset

Permission to create new assets.

Update asset

Permission to update existing assets.

  1. Click Save.

Step 2: Assign Asset Type Scheme permission scheme

You can grant permissions to an entire Asset Type Scheme for one group and then assign different permissions for specific asset types within that scheme to another group. For example, developers might have full access to the Default Asset Types Scheme but no permission for the Employee asset type within that scheme.

Tip

The steps described below can be applied to assigning a permission scheme to an Asset Type.

  1. Navigate to Assets > Asset Type Schemes.

  2. Select an Asset Type Scheme and click Configure.

  3. Under the Asset Type Scheme name, find Permission Scheme and click Configure. The Permission Scheme screen opens.

  4. Select a permission scheme.

Displaying the summary of assigned permissions

To view the summary of the assigned permissions, navigate to Asset Type Schemes and open the Asset Type scheme you want to view. Then, click the cog icon on the top right and select Assigned permissions summary.

Tip

If you open the summary on an Asset Type Schemes list, it will list all permissions. If you open it on a specific Asset Type Scheme configuration page, it will only display the permissions of that Asset Type Scheme.
