| excerpt | You may experience slow performance when editing Confluence pages which contain a large amount of text (e.g. about 10,000 words, or equivalent to 20 printed pages). You may only need to regularly edit only certain sections in those pages. In such cases, you can improve load times and server performance with the Data Section macro. This macro allows you to specify sections of the page which you can edit separately, without having to load the entire page. In this tutorial, we'll show you how to add Data Section macros to a large "Terms of Service" (TOS) page . This will allow you to quickly edit only those specific sections in the future. For this TOS page example, we're interested in editing these two sections on a regular basis: The introductory paragraph - contains a date which needs to be updated often. "Payments" section - the payment terms change quite regularly. So new and existing users must have updated info. Edit the page you are interested in. For this example, we will edit the "Terms of Service" page. Search for the sections will be edited often. Insert a Data Section macro just above the section. Move the section (cut and paste) into the Data Section macro. Continue adding Data Section macros and moving in sections as needed. When you're done click Update to publish the page. You can optimally update the "What did you change?" box and enable Notify watchers . You should now see Edit Section buttons above every section you added. If you click on an Edit Section button, only that section loads in the editor, not the entire page. When you're done, click Save to publish the page.
